Rethinking Communications

‘Every form of communication, whether it is internal to an organization or external to the public, is about creating a relationship with others. If we don’t listen, learn the context of the situation, and understand the values of others, we can’t build a relationship. We can communicate all we want, and others won’t hear us.

What I learned from 25 plus years of a mixture of management, public engagement, fundraising, policy work, and parenting is that communicating is a two-way street, and outcomes, in the best sense, are mutually beneficial.

I didn’t start out this way. It took some time to develop the skills that are necessary to understand the dynamics of a group or the styles, values, and concerns of individuals.

I started Momentum to help others to rethink communications, by listening, adapting, being clear, having humility and transparency, and setting an authentic tone that speaks to the heart of a future that people are hoping for.’
